Accountant settles 'Phoenix' libel case

An accountant who claimed he was libelled in an article in The Phoenix magazine has settled his High Court action.

An accountant who claimed he was libelled in an article in The Phoenix magazine has settled his High Court action.

Mr Paul O'Higgins SC, for Mr Richard Trehy, told Mr Justice Kearns and the jury that the proceedings against Mr Patrick Prendiville, editor of The Phoenix, and Penfield Enterprises Limited, publishers of the magazine, had been resolved.

An apology was read in court by Mr Frank Callanan SC, for the magazine, to Mr Trehy, trading as Richard Trehy and Company, chartered accountants, Gardiner Place, Dublin.

The article in the November 3rd to 16th edition of the magazine made reference to Mr Trehy's discharge of his duties as receiver over properties owned by Peninsula Killatrava Limited in Co Leitrim.

Mr Callanan apologised for the upset and distress caused to Mr Trehy and his family.
