Darwin - Forcibly removing part-Aboriginal children from their families in the 1940s and 1950s was not genocide but a way to help them escape a pitiful existence, an Australian court was told yesterday. Ms Lorna Cubillo (60) and Mr Peter Gunner (51) are suing the Australian government in a test case in which they claim damages for lifelong emotional damage they say resulted from being taken from their parents at the age of seven.
