Fifty new guidance counsellor posts for second-level schools have been provided by the Minister for Education and Science, Dr Woods.
This represents a 9 per cent increase in guidance counsellors for second-level students, according to the Department. Second-level schools have been invited to propose innovative actions to enhance guidance for schools. The new posts will be allocated on an assessment of these proposals.
