A woman from Portadown, Co Armagh, has received £50,000 in settlement of a sex discrimination claim which she took against Smurfit Corrugated Cases. The company did not admit liability.

Ms Bronagh Mulholland started working with the firm in Lurgan in 1978 becoming a production controller four years later. While pregnant with her second baby in 1994, she said her role and status in the firm were downgraded and worsened when she returned to work. She felt she had no option but to resign. The Equal Opportunities Commission assisted her in the case.
