A woman and her family who sued the Mid-Western Health Board over her husband's death are to receive £480,000 under a settlement approved yesterday by the High Court.

Mr James Collins (42), a bricklayer, who was found to have an aneurysm, died on March 27th, 1991. His wife, Mrs Carmel Collins (47), Glenanaar Avenue, Wood view, Limerick, also sued Dr Ray O'Connor, Kilbrannish Park, Woodview, Limerick, over her husband's death. In March 1991, Mr Collins attended Dr O'Connor's surgery and he was also treated at Limerick Regional Hospital, which is operated by the health board. He was found to have an aneurysm on March 22nd/23rd, 1991 and was transferred to Cork Regional Hospital. He was put on a life support machine and declared brain-dead. He died on March 27th, 1991.
