A gas explosion at a coal mine in southwestern China has killed at least 25 people, state media said today, the latest in a series of colliery accidents across the country.
Another 20 miners were trapped underground after the blast, which happened late this morning at a state-owned mine in Chongqing municipality, the official Xinhua news agency said.
China's coal pits, the world's deadliest, killed about 3,000 miners in 2008.
