STYLE:TO CELEBRATE the ninth anniversary of The Irish Times Magazine, representatives from 14 advertising agencies, together with Irish Times staff, got together at the end of last month for a night of fashion and fun in St Michael and John's Church in Dublin's Temple Bar.
Brendan Courtney and Sonya Lennon from Off the Railscompered a show that began with a march down the catwalk by Julianne McCall, who wore "The Irish Times Dress" designed by Renate Henschke. This was followed by a flash of partywear designed by Claire Garvey, whose shop is not far from Smock Alley.
The pair also judged a more informal fashion show in which individual agencies – challenged to come up with recession-proof looks for under €50 – strutted their stuff on the catwalk. The winners? Sandra Alvarez, from PHD, sporting a belt made from old 45s over a sparkly dress, which won her, and her stylists, Sarah Taylor and Louise Doddy, the best stylists award. The winning model was Adina Marinovici, from Initiative, and special thanks are due to Enda McGrattan, who coordinated the evening.
Russell Healy, from Javelin, stole the show. Not only did he do a mean imitation of Russell Brand, but he also won first prize for a cover design for The Irish Times Magazine, which featured his own photograph of bulldozers moving in on the former site of this newspaper: "Inside out," it read. "The Old Lady of D'Olier Street moves out and the diggers move in." We loved it! McConnells and Owens DDB also contributed handsome cover concepts.
