Few houses come on the market in such a blaze of colour as this terraced Victorian house at 117 Anglesea Road, in Ballsbridge, Dublin 4. Spring bulbs in the front garden are bursting into bloom, and this strong sense of colour is reflected in the interior.

The two-storey over garden level redbrick is due to be auctioned on March 15th by Sherry FitzGerald. It is expected to fetch £875,000-plus.

The refurbished house has three bedrooms, with the option of a fourth in a room currently used as a study. Steps lead up to the front door and into a gracious hall decorated in a luxurious shade of red. The hall has a dado rail and original plasterwork with an intricate centre-rose.

Two interconnecting reception rooms lead off the hall. These rooms are dramatically decorated in yellow and are mirror reflections of each other, with original sash windows and marble fireplaces, as well as picture rails and cornice-work.

A staircase leads upstairs from the hallway. A red and yellow stained-glass window looks out over the back from the half-landing. The bright red paint is carried all the way up to the top landing, with the three bedrooms providing a contrast and decorated in neutral cream.

The front two bedrooms look directly down Ailesbury Drive, while the back bedroom window overlooks Bective tennis courts and rugby grounds.

The main bedroom has a full wall of fitted wardrobes and cupboards and is a good-sized double. Next door, the bedroom is slightly smaller. To the back is another double bedroom, again with fitted units.

Off the landing is a bathroom with cream-coloured tiles, and white sanitary ware.

The garden level has a wide corridor, painted in bright yellow, leading into the kitchen, which is dominated by a huge, open hearth. The kitchen also has an Aga and a range of antique pine presses, as well as a walk-in pantry.

Off the kitchen is a utility area, plumbed for a washing machine, and there is further storage space, as well as a glass door leading into the front. Under the stairs there is room to hang coats.

Also in the basement is a cosy study, painted in another strong shade of red. It has a cast-iron fireplace and an original sash window overlooking the back garden.

The garden has a curving path and is well-planted with specimen trees and shrubs. At the end of the garden is a rear exit off a lane with parking for two cars - an important asset that obviates the need for off-street parking in front. A large timber shed also provides storage. The River Dodder runs along the lane.

The house is located along a busy road but it is close to many amenities in Donnybrook and Ballsbridge, as well as being on public transport routes and close to the city, schools and colleges.
