Two wines to pick up in the O’Briens January sale

Wines for the Weekend: Grapes used in this white wine were traditionally used in Cognac and Armagnac

This white wine tastes like a sauvignon blanc, while the red aims to show off the natural fruit of the tempranillo grape.

O’Briens has a sale running throughout January until early February. If you missed out on Añoranza red and white which I featured in September last year, they have returned and are definitely worth a try.

For this weekend, the La Salette smells and tastes like a sauvignon blanc, but in fact it is made from three local grapes: colombard, gros manseng and ugni blanc. These varieties are widely grown in southwest France. In the past they were used to produce Armagnac and Cognac, but today provide us with some great-value white wines.

Rioja is usually aged in oak barrels before being bottled. This week’s red wine is designed to show off the natural fruit of the tempranillo grape.
