Wines for the Weekend: Both of these wines are on promotion at SuperValu

Buy one of each and conduct your own malbec tasting

This week, we feature two malbecs from SuperValu, which has wines made from this variety from no fewer than five countries all on promotion, including a white. We are used to malbec from Argentina, but California, Australia and Chile all have some plantings, and France is its original home.

Buy one of each and you can conduct your own malbec tasting. If your tastes are exclusively for white wines, it might be worth trying the Las Moras Dadá Art White Malbec (€8).

Lighter than the Doña Paula below, this is a supple, smooth wine with juicy blackcurrant and plum fruits and a rounded finish. Enjoy on its own or with pork, chicken or firm cheeses. SuperValu

Doña Paula Estate Malbec 2024, Argentina

Doña Paula Estate Malbec 2024, Argentina

14%, €10 (down from €15.99)

A classic Argentinian malbec, with lifted violet aromas, medium- to full-bodied dark fruits and a spicy finish. The classic accompaniment would be a barbecued steak, but this would go nicely with any robust red meat dishes or bean casseroles. SuperValu
