Interested in science? The physics department at Trinity College Dublin is organising a week-long programme for transition-year students. Students will attend introductory lectures on physics and maths, take part in experimental work, improve their computational skills and have the chance to interact with Trinity College scientists.
The programme, which is suitable for students with a strong interest in science, runs from November 20th to November 24th. Additional dates will be offered if demand is high. If your school is interested in sending one or two students to take part, contact TYPE Programme, School of Physics, Trinity College Dublin, Dublin 2 by October 30th.
Following the successful introduction of Japanese as a transition-year
module in 60 schools around the country, and the language's increasing popularity as a Leaving Certificate subject, the Post-Primary Languages Initiative has introduced a pilot module in Russian, another of its target languages, in 15 schools in the Dublin area.
Among the participating institutions are Coláiste Dhúlaigh in Coolock and Coolmine Community School. In a few days eight students from the schools will join students from the UK to travel to Yaroslavl, an industrial port and textile centre on the Volga, northeast of Moscow, for a two-week immersion course in Russian. Good luck to all involved.
