US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld arrived in Baghdad on an unannounced visit today and urged Iraqis to finish their draft constitution before an August 15th deadline.

"We don't want any delays," Mr Rumsfeld told reporters. "Now's the time to get on with it."

Four US soldiers were killed when their vehicle struck a roadside bomb in southwest Baghdad, the US military said last night.

The military said in a statement the incident occurred on Sunday night but gave no further details.

The deaths brought to 1,790 the number of US soldiers killed in Iraq since the US-led invasion in March 2003 to topple Saddam Hussein.
