This prompted no small debate as to the correct title to use when referring to the former rugby star. Is it Sir, Dr or both?

Either way, the mind of one wag at Independent Newspapers is already made up.

A message doing the rounds on the computer system there apparently reads: "A rise Sir Tony?"

Whether the knight of Abbey Street looks favourably on the pay claim is another matter.
