Netscape posted a third-quarter net profit of $88,000 this week, beating Wall Street expectations but not by enough to signify a definite recovery, according to analysts. Responding to pressure from Microsoft, the company has distributed its browser software for free since last January. However, sales for the quarter rose to $150.2 million, mainly from enterprise software and its Netcenter Internet site.
