MORE than 200 new jobs are to be created in Dublin by two US high tech companies which are expanding their operations.
NCR, formerly a division of AT&T, is to create 180 new jobs with a £2.65 million investment at its plant in Clonshaugh, north Dublin. NCB makes computers and advanced till systems.
The new investment is for the manufacture of point of sale systems and scanning equipment for retail and leisure sectors. NCR, which employs 200 people in Dublin and had sales of £5 billion last year, has already recruited 50 new staff.
The other expansion is at the US computer company, Oracle, which is creating 30 new jobs at its European software development facility in Blackrock, Co Dublin, bringing Oracle's total employment in Ireland to 230.
The company also has a manufacturing, sales and distribution business in the Republic and announced recently it would create a further 400 jobs at a new call centre in Dublin.
. Meanwhile, the Minister for Enterprise and Employment, Mr Bruton, has launched 44 projects which will receive £9 million from the European Social Fund under the ADAPT initiative.
ADAPT funds projects providing employment for people affected by changes in industrial practices.
Over the next four years, £30 million, comprising £22 million from the EU and £8 million from the Irish Government and private funds, will be spent on the programme.
