A test that could help establish the risk of patients using Elan’s Tysabri drug developing a rare brain infection has been approved in Europe.

Tysabri is used to treat multiple sclerosis. It is hoped the blood test will help determine the chances of a patient contracting PML. At the start of February, 95 people taking Tysabri had contracted PML; 20 had died.
