Eircell, the mobile phone operator, has completed its nationwide launch of new technology to improve voice quality during mobile calls over the GSM network. According to the company, this is one of the first European implementations of Enhanced Full Rate (EFR) technology, with no additional cost to the user. Advanced signalling processing technology and speech-coding algorithms collude to ensure the voice being transmitted is a true representation of the input voice. All GSM customers with compatible phones will be switched automatically to EFR.
