Companies connected to Munster Joinery settle for more than €1.2m with Revenue

Two companies tied to window and door manufacturer Munster Joinery settled for almost €1.3 million with the Revenue Commissioners after underdeclaring taxes, the latest quarterly defaulters' list shows.

Fifteen people and businesses paid €2.8 million in taxes, interest and penalties between them in the three months to September 30th, according to the list published on Tuesday.

Kerry-based Jurras Ltd and Foxgold Ltd between them paid €1.295 million to the Revenue for underdeclaring dividend withholding tax.

Both are now in liquidation, but were part part of the Cork-headquartered window and door manufacturer Munster Joinery, one of the largest window manufacturing companies in Ireland, which also has operations in Britain.

Castleisland, Co Kerry-based Jurras settled for €1.05 million for underdeclaring dividend withholding tax. The total tax due was €345,928 but the company was also hit with interest of €571,962 and penalties of €138,371.

Foxgold Ltd, a connected company, with the same directors – Donal and Noreen Ring – and the same address, settled for €239,141. Its total tax due was €81,571, but it was also charged interest of €124,941 while the penalties came to €32,629.

Mr Ring founded Munster Joinery with his brother, Patrick, and remains a director of the business.

Jurras’s settlement was the largest on the defaulters’ list this quarter while Foxgold’s ranked second. Revenue described both as patent licensors.

Companies' Registrar returns for both show they were solvent before their shareholders voted to wind them up and appoint a liquidator in September.

Jurras had total assets of almost €3.29 million and liabilities of €20,000 while Foxgold had total assets of €117,154 and liabilities of €9,500.

Gairdini, an unlimited company, was their ultimate parent. Accounts for each show transactions with other companies in the Munster Joinery group.

Munster Joinery did not comment. The business employs 1,700 people in Ireland, where it has a factory in Ballydesmond Co Cork along with showrooms in Belfast, Cork, Dublin and Galway. It also has a factory in Britain.

Food processor Keohane Seafood unlimited company of Kinsale Road, Cork, settled for €227,742.

Elsewhere the defaulters’ list shows Revenue audits of medical staff agencies yielded three settlements.

Andrewendomed Medical Ltd of Swords, Co Dublin, settled for €113,690, Tariqs Medical Ltd of Clonee, Dublin, settled for €88,459 and Vitraxa Medical Ltd of Steamboat Quay, Limerick, settled for €66,206.
