THERE WERE red (or should that be green?) faces at An Post headquarters this week when a private website for its forthcoming Postfone venture with Vodafone was accidentally made public.

The site, which was live for a few hours on Wednesday, even included a draft press release for an April 12th launch of the service that included a quote from An Post chief executive Donal Connell. That was enough time for eagle-eyed Pat Phelan, the Cubic Telecom boss, to spot the site and post about it on his well-read blog.

Postfone will be a “virtual” mobile operator using An Post’s brand and its network of 1,000 offices around the State. The service will run on Vodafone’s network.

The two companies had announced their intention to create a mobile virtual network operator as long ago as December 2008.
