THE signs are that the Wexford selectors may be forced to change their decision to select left corner back John O'Connor for Sunday's All Ireland senior hurling championship semifinal against Galway in Croke Park.

O'Connor, who had fought back to regain his place in time for last month's Leinster final against Offaly after breaking a bone in his hand the National League semi final, picked up a calf muscle injury in training on Sunday.

Despite this concern, the selectors went ahead and named him on Tuesday night for Sunday's match. But the alarm bells rang on Wednesday evening when the player did not join in the training session.

O'Connor, whose career has been plagued with injuries an eye injury threatened his career five years years ago is to undergo a fitness test tomorrow morning.

His brother, George, said last night. "At the moment John is looking good enough, but we will just have to wait and see."

George O'Connor or Paul Finn are the likely ones to be called into the starting 15 should John O'Connor fail his test.

In the event of either player being given the nod, a number of positional switches would ensue. Finn is a forward, but George O'Connor has played at centre back, midfield and on the 40 for the county.
