A drop goal by number 10 Hugh McMahon seemed to be indicative of the early dominance of the Mater Hospital in this Hospitals' Cup final at Anglesea Road yesterday. Mater, however, seemed incapable of pressing home the advantage and conceded a penalty at the end of the first half.

A resurgence of the Beaumont team in the second half saw full back John Philpot kick his second penalty. Then a missed kick was clinically-turned into a penalty try and conversion by the Mater team to put the score at 13-6, followed just 10 minutes later by a third penalty kick to put the final score at 16-6.
