Henin maintains winning run

Tennis: World number one Justine Henin brushed aside Polish teenager Agnieszka Radwanska 6-4, 6-2 in the quarter-finals of the Zurich Open yesterday to maintain her incredible run this year.

Henin has reached the semi-finals of all 13 tournaments she has participated in.

Her chances of winning her ninth title of the season were boosted by the retirement through injury of second-seeded Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova.

Unbeaten in 17 successive matches, Henin never looked in danger against Radwanska.

Kuznetsova became the tournament's latest big-name casualty when she pulled out of her match against Italy's Francesca Schiavone while trailing 3-6, 3-3.

South Africa content to carry on

Cricket: South Africa will continue their tour of Pakistan despite the twin blasts on Thursday which killed 133 people in a rally for former premier Benazir Bhutto in Karachi.

South Africa's team manager Logan Naidoo said at a news conference yesterday that the team were currently satisfied with security arrangements for them, but reserved the right to review the situation in the future if needed.

"We are satisfied so far. The security arrangements put in place are pleasing and acceptable to the South African team," Naidoo said. "So we will definitely continue the tour, but we will be keeping tabs on what is happening in the country for the rest of the tour."

Jimmy Clifford dies aged 73

Gaelic Games: The death has taken place of former Cork hurler, coach and selector Johnny Clifford, who was aged 73.

The Glen Rovers clubman first came to prominence when captaining Cork to the 1951 All-Ireland minor hurling title. Three years later he scored the winning goal in the final during Cork's senior victory over Wexford.

A Cork selector in 1977, when they won the second title of their three-in-a-row, Clifford coached Cork to the 1985 All-Ireland minor title before guiding the senior team to Liam MacCarthy Cup glory the following year after their unexpected win over Galway.

He also served as selector in the mid-1990's.
