Pegasus unlucky: Pembroke Wanderers and Hermes will have to be content with playing in the second tier of the European Women's Hockey Club Championship next season after the conclusion of this year's tournaments in Wettingen and Berlin respectively yesterday.

Lisnagarvey failed in their bid to win the promotion play-off in Switzerland when they were beaten 2-1 by Stade Francais, while Pegasus were unable to retain top-flight status for the All-Ireland women's champions after losing 3-2 in a penalty shoot-out to Scots Bonagrass Grange after a 2-2 draw.

However, the Belfast side were unfortunate not to win in regulation time.

Linda Clement's equalising goal came with just 90 seconds remaining after goals from Suzanne Beaney and Claire McMahon had cancelled out Louise Carroll's 51st minute opener.
