Arsenal midfielder Gilberto has warned his Brazil team-mates not to underestimate their Republic of Ireland opponents ahead of tomorrow night's friendly at Croke Park.

Gilberto was referring to the prospect of the Republic squad being distracted by the FAI's protracted saga in attempting to appoint Steve Staunton's successor.

Despite the withdrawal of star man Kaka, Brazil coach Dunga expects to name a strong young team to face the Republic with a near sell-out 80,000 crowd set to turn out in the hope of a famous win over their illustrious opponents.

Recent events suggest such an eventuality is a long shot, particularly as the Republic squad is still without a permanent coach as countless names have been bandied about during a process which has lasted more than 100 days. And still a replacement for Staunton has not been decided upon.

But Gilberto is experienced enough to appreciate that such problems can often be set aside by a good performance against his country - but he is adamant his team will not let that happen.

Gilberto said: "I think it's a good motivation for them and we expect a difficult game. Every game for us is really hard because most of the teams play their best against us.

"We just have to have our own game in mind, although we will be very careful about Ireland and try to take advantage of their weakest points.

"I know some of their team, especially Robbie Keane. The last time we played them it was a really hard, difficult game and tomorrow I expect the same."

Dunga's line-up is also expected to include two more Premier League players in Chelsea's Alex and Manchester United's Anderson, whom Gilberto praised for his impact in his first season in England.

"It's fantastic to see how he is adapting, especially in a different position," said Gilberto. "He has changed his style completely but he is doing well and I think he can produce much more for his quality."
