Nineteen handicapper Christine Speer is nearing what she hopes will be a very memorable occasion ... the birth of her baby. Now, although she is due to give birth in a few weeks, she proved recently that it wasn't going to stop her winning prizes at Ballybofey and Stranorlar golf club.

Playing in the singles competition, just six weeks before her baby is due, Speer brought in a winning score of 38 points to pip four-handicapper Darragh McGowan by a single point.

And there was also a new addition to the winners' enclosure as Anne Griffin (25) won for the first time at the Donegal club, with a score of 69, to pip Dolores Devanney (28) in the following weeks singles competition, in which Kathleen McGowan (16) took the gross prize with 86.
