RACING:The Group One Irish sprint star Sole Power reverts back to Listed class at Doncaster today as he attempts to regain winning form, writes BRIAN O'CONNOR.

Since springing a 100 to 1 shock in the 2010 Nunthorpe Stakes, Eddie Lynam’s charge has won just once, in last year’s Temple Stakes at Haydock.

Today he lines up alongside another Irish hope, Nocturnal Affair, in the Listed Scarborough Stakes.

“He’s travelled over fine and seems in good form,” said Lynam yesterday. “He was never going to run at Haydock last weekend, we hadn’t even entered him for that. I hope he runs well. He deserves to win another one.”

The Co Meath-based trainer added: “If everything goes well tomorrow, he’ll then go over to France for the Prix de l’Abbaye (where he was beaten a head in third last year).”

Nocturnal Affair’s trainer David Marnane reported: “He’s won at Doncaster before and the ground will suit him better, so hopefully he’ll run well as he’s a horse I like a lot.

“Although he’s coming down from a Group One to a Listed race, it’s hardly a drop in class with horses like Sole Power in there. We’ll give it a go and if he runs well, then he could go for the Abbaye.”
