FORMER DUBLIN netminder and All-Ireland winning captain in 1995, John O’Leary, is the latest notable addition to Peter Fitzpatrick’s Louth management team.
O’Leary will link up with another ex-All Star, Brian McEniff, who was the coach when Donegal gained their only All-Ireland senior football title in 1992. After acting as an adviser last year, McEniff was recently appointed as a Louth selector.
Meanwhile, O’Leary will be used as a goalkeeping and backs coach as Louth try to consolidate their Division Two status, having gained promotion last year.
Meanwhile, Kerry’s Tommy Griffin, winner of five All-Ireland football titles, has retired from inter-county football.
“I have been mulling it over since September and I just feel that the time is right now to hang up the boots and move on,” said the 33-year-old.
David Breen will captain the Limerick senior hurling team this season under new manager John Allen.
The 27-year-old has been nominated by his club Na Piarsaigh, and will be the first member of the city-based club to be so honoured. Na Piarsaigh won the county title for the first time last year.
