THE MEATH SFC final between Wolfe Tones and Seneschalstown will go ahead on Sunday week after Navan O’Mahonys decided to withdraw their objection to Tones who defeated them in last weekend’s replayed semi-final.

Wolfe Tones midfielder Stephen Corrigan was sent off at the end of extra-time in the drawn tie but the straight red card was rescinded by the county hearings committee with the club claiming that they had not consented to playing the additional periods.

O’Mahonys initially decided to object to the Leinster Council over Corrigan’s participation in the replay but reversed the decision following a meeting with the players. A statement issued suggests “the players do not wish to tarnish the reputation of the club which has a proud tradition of winning Keegan Cup titles on the pitch”.

As a result Meath should be represented in the Leinster club championship with the winners due to meet Portlaoise or Louth’s Mattock Rangers on November 8th.

New Galway boss Joe Kernan has received a massive boost with former All-Star Pádraic Joyce confirming he expects to be available next year for the county.

The 32-year-old former player of the year recently underwent a procedure for an Achilles injury and this week was told it had been successful and to step up his training.

“I still have a lot of work to do over the next few months but it was a great boost this week to be told that all was going to plan and to step up training,” he said.

Joyce does not expect to see much action in the league next year, but he is looking forward to championship action.
