UCD 1 Drogheda 1:A LATE header from skipper Alan McNally allowed Drogheda United to salvage a point in last night's tense encounter with a young UCD side at the Belfield Bowl.

Drogheda went close to opening the scoring on 12 minutes when Tiernan Mulvenna played a ball over the top of the defence only for Declan O’Brien to shoot over from close range.

O’Brien had appeals for a penalty waved away by Welsh referee Nick Pratt on 43 minutes after appearing to be taken down in the area by defender Danny Ledwith.

Against the run of play, College took the lead on 69 minutes when Graham Rusk was dispossessed but Ledwith was able to collect the ball and fire home from 15 yards.

Mulvenna and Derek Prendergast both had efforts which rebounded off the woodwork as Drogheda frantically threw everything forward.

But they had their reward on 82 minutes when substitute Seán Brennan headed across goal for McNally to nod home from close range.
