Athletics: Catherina McKiernan suffered another setback in her attempt to return to world class athletics when she was involved in a car crash yesterday afternoon in Meath. Although McKiernan's car was badly damaged, she was fortunate to walk away uninjured. She was recovering from shock at her home last night.
Her car was in collision with a truck, and the consequences could have been far worse. But it is another blow to her enduring attempts to recover from a troublesome back injury.
Gaelic Football: Killian Burns is the surprise omission from the Kerry championship panel chosen this week from which a team will be chosen on Tuesday night next to face Tipperary on Sunday week in Kerry's opening game in defence of their title. Burns, who plays with Sneem and is now based in Dublin, was a regular on the Kerry team that won the title in '97 and also started in last year's campaign, before being replaced by Mike Hassett during the season.
