Roscommon coasted to a Connacht senior football championship semi-final meeting with Leitrim by securing the easiest of victories over an out-classed London side at Ruislip yesterday.
Leading 0-11 to 0-4 at half time despite playing into a stiff breeze, the visitors ended the game as a contest in the second half when Gerry Lohan and Frank Dolan scored two goals each.
Although Roscommon were on top in most departments, their supremacy was especially marked in the middle of the field, where Donal Casserley and John Gillooly were never seriously challenged.
Roscommon's teamwork and physical fitness had London chasing shadows for most of the hour and even without four of his regulars, team manager Gay Sheerin must view future prospects with a great deal of optimism.
The home defence had no answer to the pressure exerted by an attack in which Francie Grehan, Nigel Dineen and Eddie Lohan combined fine approach work with accurate finishing. While the Roscommon defence was never seriously threatened, full back John Whyte and centre half Clifford McDonald dealt adequately with London's spasmodic raids.
London's Pat Rafter, Barry McDonagh, Mick Donoghue and Darragh Deering managed to summon up some resistance, but it was never going to be enough.
