Connacht SFC Round One: A point from Senan Kilbride three minutes from full-time gave St Brigid's of Roscommon a one-point win over Sligo champions Curry in an exciting Connacht football championship first-round match at Hyde Park yesterday.
Kilbride rounded off a move involving John Tiernan and David O'Connor to kick over the winning score as Curry missed three chances to equalise in the closing minutes.
St Brigid's, managed by former Galway All-Ireland hurling medal winner Anthony Cunningham and with John O'Mahony in the back-room team, raced into a five-point lead after three minutes when O'Connor scored the goal. With Gary Maye prominent at midfield Curry came into the game in the third quarter and points from Adrian Marren and Seán Davey left three between the teams at half-time.
Although Maye went off injured early in the second half Curry pressed and Marren netted the equalising goal in the 42nd minute. Two minutes later Kenneth Morley gave Curry the lead for the first, and only, time but that proved to be his team's last score.
In a tense finish Frankie Dolan equalised from a free and Kilbride scored the winner seven minutes later.
