Golden Silca provides fine each-way value

Golden Silca can provide a spot of each-way value in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood today

Golden Silca can provide a spot of each-way value in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood today. Mick Channon's filly is a high-class performer and came within a short-head of gaining Classic success in the Irish 1000 Guineas last year, finding only Barry Hills' Hula Angel too good.

Also second in the Coronation Stakes, odds of 40 to 1 about her chances look pretty generous given that everything could be run to suit.

She certainly looked as good as ever when scoring in a Listed race at Epsom in June after starting the season off with a fine fourth in the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury, when still in need of the run.

Channon admits that Golden Silca has her idiosyncrasies and jockey Craig Williams will want to hold her up for as long as possible as she does not exactly overexert herself when in front.

But if forgiven a lacklustre run at Royal Ascot as well as a poor effort when fifth, having raced on the slower ground in the centre of the course at Newmarket last month, Golden Silca has a lively chance at a tasty price.

Dansili is a worthy favourite having found only Kalanisi too good at Royal Ascot but favourites have a poor record in the race and there are doubts about his ability to act on the course.

Earlier on the card, Chianti can maintain his unbeaten record in the Champagne Lanson Vintage Stakes over seven furlongs.

John Dunlop's promising juvenile has won his two starts so far in the style of a very good horse. Both races were at York where he easily landed the odds in a nine-runner maiden race in June, beating Lost At Sea by one and three-quarter lengths and back on the Knavesmire four weeks later he cruised home from just two rivals.

Chianti is open to considerable improvement and can land today's Group Three contest on his way to even better things.
