LEINSTER UNDER-21 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP FIRST ROUND Carlow 0-14 Wicklow 1-6:MIDFIELDER DARRAGH Foley turned in a man-of-the-match performance for Carlow as they knocked Wicklow out of the Leinster Under-21 championship for a second successive year with this five-point win under lights at Baltinglass last night.
Foley dominated midfield throughout and in addition he was Carlow’s top scorer with 0-4, two coming from frees in the first half.
Wicklow led twice in the first quarter after Brendan McCrea had drilled to the net, but they drifted 0-9 to 1-2 in arrears by the break.
Wicklow cut the margin to a single point in the first 12 minutes of the second half and goalkeeper William Hender-Phillips saved a penalty before Carlow consolidated their lead to run out comfortable winners.
