Roscommon SHC Final/Athleague 1-11 Padraig Pearses 1-6: A goal by Gary Fallon two minutes before half-time put Athleague on the path to victory at Athleague yesterday. Fallon blocked a clearance, raced in on goal and guided a low shot to the net to give his side a three-point lead. Athleague added points from Brendan Boyle and Tom Reddington to go in five ahead at the break.
Points from Shane Sweeney and Pádraic Galvin brought the gap back to three by the 42nd minute but Athleague regained control with points from Boyle (two) and Mervyn Connaughton.
Pearses missed a penalty in the seventh minute when Shane Sweeney's shot went wide.
Pearses enjoyed a good spell in the third quarter with points from Galvin and Sweeney. Boyle however, scored a crucial free in the 44th minute and Athleague regained control with a further free from Boyle and two points from Connaughton. Cathal Kelly pounced for a goal for Pearses in injury-time.
