GAA: Tony Dempsey has decided not to carry on in charge of the Wexford senior hurling team. The Fianna Fail TD guided the fortunes of the county through two championship campaigns.
After considering his position since the county's championship elimination to Clare, Dempsey said it was difficult to walk away but he felt that he was leaving Wexford hurling in a much healthier state.
"When I was appointed I said I would have the team playing with their heart on their sleeves and would leave Wexford hurling healthier. I feel I've achieved this in the two years and for that I'm happy."
Dempsey has no doubts about the potential of the team.
"Last year we bounced back from a crushing Leinster final defeat to beat Limerick and draw with Tipperary.
"This year we ran Kilkenny to two points in the Leinster final. With most of the team under 22 years of age the future for Wexford hurling is bright."
Under-21 manager, Séamus Murphy is a front-runner for the vacated post.
Meanwhile, top scorer Mark Keane passed a fitness test for the Limerick under-21 hurlers yesterday evening and will take his customary place at top of the left for Sunday's All-Ireland final against Galway at Thurles.
He had been suffering from a ligament injury.
Niall Moran was also declared fit and the team sees the return of captain Peter Lawlor to midfield, having missed the semi-final.
Elsewhere, Derry's Anthony Tohill will be among those aiming for glory in tomorrow's third annual Kick Fada.
Organised by Bray Emmets and starting in St Thomas's, Bray at 1 p.m., other finalists include Mayo's Peter Burke and Maurice Sheridan, Cork's Philip Clifford and Brendan Jer O'Sullivan, Mickey McVeigh and Ross Carr from Down, Tipperary's Declan Browne, Offaly's Padraig Kelly and Louth's Stewart Reynolds.
Last year saw Mark Herbert from Kildare retain his title with a record-breaking kick of 72 metres.
Kildare champions Sarsfields have been ejected from this year's senior football championship following an objection from Round Towers that the Newbridge club fielded an ineligible player in their recent quarter-final clash.
Round Towers will now play in the semi-final.
