Jonathan Davey's clinical first-half goal laid the foundation for St Mary's win over a fancied Curry team in an action-packed Sligo senior football championship decider at Markievicz Park, Sligo, yesterday.

Curry were hoping to bridge a 29-year gap to their last county senior title won in 1972 but the Saints' greater urgency, hunger for success and more skilful forward play won the day.

The St Mary's full-forward trio of Davey, Mark Brehony and David Caffrey between them accounted for 1-9 of the winners' total, with Davey notching 1-3.
