DERRY CITY: 0, CORK CITY: 1.
CORK CITY'S revival continued at the Brandywell on Saturday when Dave Barry's men controlled this game against a strangely lethargic Derry City to record a thoroughly deserved victory and move the Leesiders up the Premier Division table.
And the victory is all the more impressive when one considers the fact that Cork had to plan without their influential central defender, Dave Hill, left winger Ollie Cahill (both suspended) and youngster Colin O'Brien who has a hamstring injury.
Overall the game proved very disappointing and the goal which settled the issue in the 62nd minute, was equally frustrating.
Derry's Ritchie Purdy appeared to knock an attempted clearance into the path of Patsy Freyne and when his low centre was driven into the penalty area, the ball went into the net off Derry's Tommy Dunne.
Cork's goal appeared to spur the home side into action. Purdy, Paul Curran and Sean Hargan all missed quality opportunities for Derry while Cork keeper Phil Harrington was alert to deny substitute Tom Mohan the best chance of the game in the 78th minute.
With Derry totally committed to going forward, Cork always threatened on the break. Freyne hammered the ball into the side netting in the 77th minute when he really should have done better while Damien O'Connell was very unlucky to see his close range header cleared off the Derry goalline by defender Gavin Dykes.
