Kilkenny CBS 1-6 St Peters, Wexford 0-6:PHILLY CAMPION'S 15th-minute goal proved the decisive score as Kilkenny CBS earned a three-point victory over a battling St Peter's College at New Ross on Saturday.

The respective defences were on top for long spells with Evan Coady and Eoin McGrath prominent for Kilkenny and Seán Murphy and James Cash outstanding for the Wexford college.

Two Andrew Kenny frees had St Peter’s in front when Campion’s fine goal gave his side a 1-1 to 0-2 lead. James Langton’s point pushed Kilkenny 1-2 to 0-2 ahead at the interval. Kevin Doyle increased the lead on the restart, but St Peter’s hit three points from Colm Heffernan and Kenny (2) to cut the deficit to 1-3 to 0-5.

Substitute Benny Bolger’s two points secured Kilkenny’s passage.
