Goalkeeper Gareth Byrne was the toast of Drogheda last night when a dramatic penalty shoot-out save from Mark Dempsey sent the Boynesiders into the second round of the League cup.

It was a fitting end to a pulsating tie which Drogheda led for almost 80 minutes after Mark Revins had fired them into an eighth minute lead. However, Derek Swan scored five minutes from the end of normal time to force extra time.
