Youths World Cup final: Brazil won the World Youth Championship for the fourth time yesterday, overcoming a determined challenge from Spain at the Zayed Sports City stadium in Abu Dhabi in front of 60,000 spectators.

Fernandinho's 87-minute strike settled a game which Spain were forced to play almost entirely with just 10 men, defender Melli being sent off after just four minutes for a professional foul.

Earlier, Ireland's conquerors Colombia edged out Argentina 2-1 in the third-place play-off.

Though Osmar Ferreyra's searing free-kick evened Erwin Carrillo's earlier strike, the Argentinians could not keep the party going, losing out after Jamie Castrillon hammered home from close range in the second half.
