Madam, – To his credit, Eddie Molloy (Opinion, April 22nd) gave the lie to the “We are all to blame” mantra that has being promoted by powerful interests since this country got into the present mess
Writing about the public service he says, “In so far as staff are powerless, they are also blameless”. He goes on to say that “a corporate culture is formed and locked in by a critical mass . . . of powerful individuals at the apex of any system. It is these people in leadership positions who ultimately are responsible for the bitter fruits of a dysfunctional culture”.
The same applies to the country as a whole. People in leadership positions in government, banks, building, etc, are responsible for the bankrupt state of the country.
Yet we have too many of those, who failed to warn us about what was happening, now telling the rest of us that it was all our own fault.
“We” are not to blame. The people in what Mr Molloy calls “leadership positions” are. – Yours, etc,
