Sir, – Complaints about the price of a stamp are perhaps unsurprising, but are unfair. Even before the pandemic, postal staff on their bicycles and in their vans were part of daily life in our community. During the rolling lockdowns, they upped their game considerably and became a beacon of friendship and positivity for us as we undertook our daily walks through the neighbourhood. Priceless!
An Post is not just about letters and stamps. It is a real commercial and financial services business, offering products and services that compete with the best. We are willing to pay dearly for courier delivery services for our online purchases yet moan about the price of a stamp? An Post savings products are more competitive than most currently offered by the big institutions. It provided free cheerful postcards to send to others during the first lockdown.
