The fixation with fog-lights

Madam, - On a trip home last weekend, I noticed the most peculiar affection of Irish drivers for their fog-lights

Madam, - On a trip home last weekend, I noticed the most peculiar affection of Irish drivers for their fog-lights. On the non-motorway sections between Thomastown, Co Kilkenny and Dublin I counted 96 (and a half) sets of fog-lights on at 3pm on a clear, sunny day.

BMW drivers seemed to be the worst offenders - and being a BMW owner myself, I know the fog-lights cannot easily be turned on by accident. Why, therefore, use fog-lights when they don't need them?

Do they take glee in focusing a narrow bean at the drivers in front of them? Do they think they looks "cool"? At two points a pop these drivers are easy pickings for any garda who wants to get to the top of his station league. - Yours, etc,
