Madam, - There has been much comment about the falling levels of interest in science in Ireland so maybe it should come as no surprise that your report of August 30th on the Enniscrone E.coli outbreak should erroneously refer to a "virus". In fact, E.coli is a bacterium.
Aside from this factual error of Junior Certificate level, the difference is very important both medically and scientifically, especially to the people of Enniscrone. Shaking my head in disappointment I then moved to your "Science Today" section, whose title then seemed like a very bad joke. - Yours, etc,
