A chara, – I have a suggestion for next year’s McGill Summer School. All the speakers should come from marginalised and disadvantaged groups – unemployed, disabled, homeless, low-skilled workers, early school-leavers, prisoners, ex-offenders, asylum seekers, migrants, drug users, those with low literacy and numeracy skills, carers, those suffering from chronic illnesses such as cystic fibrosis, Travellers — that is, all those groups that you and I would hate to belong to. The audience would be the politicians, academics and other high-flyers who attended this year’s school and who, I suspect, seldom if ever meet a disadvantaged person face to face.
