Running out of patience on health

Sir, – This health system of ours expects patients to have patience. After a nine-hour wait in casualty last week in Naas hospital to be seen, even my patience was being tested! Thankfully my injury was minor, but my real concern was for the patients whose patience had run out and chose to leave. There was one elderly gentleman who was clearly in a lot of pain, who had great difficulty sitting on the seats, and who went up to reception to ask could he lie down somewhere. He had had enough several hours later and he left. He wasn’t the only one. This is surely an utter disgrace. – Yours, etc,

PATRICIA DUNNE,
