ROSSNOWLAGH BEACH

PASCAL DEVINE,

PASCAL DEVINE,

Sir, - I am amazed at the comments made by Eileen Travers (July 29th) as I coach surfing daily on Rossnowlagh Beach and also run the length of the beach twice a day. At no point on the beach is there a "sewage smell".

Rossnowlagh Beach is regarded as one of the cleanest beaches in Co Donegal and in qualifying for Blue Flag status provides one of the highest ratings in the county. Donegal County Council carries out tests weekly to support this.

All development in the resort is subject to strictest adherence to planning, with all recent developments requiring sewage treatment plants. At no point is there sewage going onto the three-mile long beach.

Finally, as an executive member of the Irish Surfing Association (ISA), I would like to point out that the ISA has led the way in many instances around Ireland highlighting sewage and environmental issues and obtaining remedies. You can rest assured that if there was a problem on our home beach at Rossnowlagh we would be the first to raise the red flag. - Yours, etc.,

PASCAL DEVINE, Chairman, Rossnowlagh Surf Club, Rossnowlagh Beach, Co Donegal.
