Forced landing in Belarus

Sir, – Regarding “Forced landing of Ryanair plane in Belarus” (News, May 23rd), the European Union must declare the air space over Belarus as a no-go area for European airlines after Belarus contrived to force the landing of a Ryanair flight. The ban must remain in effect until Roman Protasevich, who was forcibly removed from the plane after it landed, is freed by the Belarus regime and allowed to leave that country. The regime’s actions must be considered nothing other than an act of air piracy. – Yours, etc,

DAN DONOVAN,

Dungarvan,

Co Waterford.
