Employment and rent
Sir, – After 4½ years of trading, I was finally in the position to hire a full-time sales clerk in January 2016 and remove someone from the Live Register. That’s good, isn’t it?
This employee has now had her council rent increased by €18 per week, which comes to an increase of €72 per month. I am paying her on a weekly basis, amounting to €200 after deductions.
She was claiming €188 per week from the Department of Social Protection, amounting to €762 per month. Now, with €800 net pay monthly, her income, after the rent increase, is €728. – Yours, etc,
Sandycove, Co Dublin.
